On 20th of the Islamic month of Jamadi as-Sani some nine years before Hijra, Prophet Mohammad (SAWA) was blessed with the radiant daughter, Hazrat Fatema Zahra (SA), who is referred by God Almighty in the holy Qur’an as "Kowsar" or the Perennial Fountain of Abundant Munificence. The birth of this noblest-ever lady, after the Prophet’s sons had died in infancy, ensured the continuation of the blessed progeny of the Almighty’s Last Messenger to mankind.
She was the perfect daughter, the perfect wife for the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (AS), and the perfect mother for sons Imam Hasan and Imam Husain, and daughters, Hazrat Zainab and Hazrat Omm Kulsoum (peace upon them). There are several ayahs in the holy Qur’an referring to the unsurpassed merits of the Pride of the Virgin Mary, including the Verse of Purity (33:33), and the Verse of Mobahela (3:61), on whose revelation, she accompanied her father, husband and two small sons to the historical debate with the Christians of Najran that made the truth of Islam triumph.
The peerless position of Hazrat Fatema (SA) as the "Baz’at ar-Rasoul" or part of the Prophet, is also clear from her title of "Umm Abiha", which literally means Mother of her own Father, and which she acquired because of extreme her care and concern for her widower father, after the passing away of her mother, "Omm al-Momenin" (Mother of all True Believers), Hazrat Khadija (SA).
Yet, despite her lofty merits, she used to personally do all household chores. After marriage and a very simple dowry consisting of basic amenities, she and her husband shared the blessings of a blissful life. Imam Ali (AS) was responsible for all outside work, while she took care of household affairs. They made an excellent husband-and- wife pair. As the supreme symbol of feminine virtues, she displayed the highest ethical traits in marital life in view of the hadith: "A woman’s jihad [i.e. striving in the way of Allah] is to behave excellently with her husband).”
She also enjoyed very cordial relations with her mother-in-law, Fatema bint Asad (SA), the lady who had brought up her father, the future Prophet, as her own son and to whose care the Prophet had entrusted Hazrat Fatema (SA) after she was orphaned at her mother's death. She never allowed her mother-in-law to trouble herself with household chores and left to her the social relations for keeping the necessary contact with family members and friends.
In 7 AH when the Prophet provided her with the virtuous Abyssinian maid, named Fizza, she divided the work equally, by giving rest to the maid for a whole day after a day’s work, and discharging the duties that day herself. These are some of the immortal lessons taught to humanity by Hazrat Fatema (SA), whose birth anniversary is marked as Mother’s Day and Women’s Week in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Over the years Muslims in several other countries have begun to hold such gatherings in order to more clearly tread the path of Fatema (SA), the daughter at whose threshold the Prophet used to salute, and would stand to his feet whenever she entered his presence. This is indeed a practical demonstration of the rights and dignity of women in Islam.
