The Holy Qur’an, Messenger of Unity

Salaam and here is a special article on the Holy Qur’an, which as the Revealed Word of God to His Last and Greatest Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (SAWA), is indeed the Harbinger of Unity.

 

The holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (SAWA) over a period of 23 years for the guidance of all humanity. The Prophet practically demonstrated how to live in peace and harmony, by obeying the commandments of God, abstaining from sins, and striving for material development and spiritual perfection. Following the passing away of Prophet Mohammad (SAWA), discord and disputes emerged. In other words, despite God’s commandments Islamic unity and brotherhood was badly damaged by the actions of certain elements. Ayah 10 of Surah Hujurat says:

"The faithful are indeed brothers. Therefore make peace between your brothers and be wary of Allah, so that you may receive [His] mercy."

Quran: Divine Words

By the Qur'an we mean the verses, phrases, sentences and chapters uttered by the Holy Prophet of Islam, not as his own words, but as the Word and the Book of God revealed to him; this he claimed as his Everlasting Miracle which bears testimony to his Prophethood; and with this he challenged not only those who doubted its origin, and not only humankind alone, but even the Jinns, saying that even if the Jinns and men joined forces to produce the like of it, they would never be able to do even a small part of it This challenge was made not to any particular age, but to all ages.

Since the advent of Islam and the revelation of the Qur'an in the early years of the seventh century AD, the Muslim Holy Book has been the subject of many extensive analytical studies. The focus of the great majority of these studies has been the theological and legislative aspects of the Holy Book, for the Qur'an provides Muslims with detailed guidance on their everyday problems. Together with the sayings, actions, and recommendations of Prophet Muhammad (saws), the Qur'an has been the ultimate source of legal authority for Muslims over the past fourteen centuries.

The Qur'an is the last in a series of divine books revealed by Allah to mankind through the prophets. The Holy Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) over a period of 23 years and consists of 114 chapters arranged from longest to shortest. Its length compares to that of the New Testament. The revelations were written down by a group of people appointed by the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and, after his death, first compiled by Imam 'Ali (peace be upon him).
